The things we take for granted which act as the supportive background to our life and activities, such as parental love, our own reality as a person, social order, the thousands of things which constitute reality’ for us. Also the ground we stand on’; attitudes and relationships we have taken for granted; everyday life; the past. Soft earth, fields: mother, the fundamental processes of life out of which we have our being and which continually nurture us. Under, swallowed by the earth: the unconscious habits, drives and psychobiologicai processes which existed before our emergence as a conscious self, and in which we might lose self in death. Idioms: down to earth; go to earth; like nothing on earth. See also unconscious.
Earth itself comes to signify rhe manifestation or creation of God. Like the womb of the mother, it offers stability and structure and provides the gifts of plenty. It is that which represents the matenalization of thought. Earth sustains all life. It is the ground on which all is built, and it is the playground through which life is enjoyed. Earth can represent the physical body. In your dreams it may represent your concerns about the Earth and her resources.
The presence of Earth in a dream may mean simply that you may need to get grounded.
If you are looking down upon the Earth from space, this is a sign of expansion, success, and great happiness.
A dream of lying on the earth depends on other symbols in the dream, particularly the weather.
If it is a lovely day, a much-needed period of rest and relaxation lies ahead.
If the weather is bad, an important matter needs immediate attention and you need to get on it.
Tilling the earth, or watching someone till the earth, indicates sensible and profitable use of your resources. See “Dirt”.
To dream about the earth indicates a sense of worldwide awakening and completeness. It could also represent the feeling of being ‘grounded.’ You should have practical ambitions.
Symbol: The earth is the symbol of creation, “Gods footstool.”
Vision: If you are burying yourself: you are looking for your roots and your past.
If you are looking at black soil: sorrow or grief. Dreaming of sunbathing suggests that taking a trip to the country will do you a world of good. Dreaming about climbing out from the earth (from a grave?) means either that a crisis in your life is over, or that you are reaching a new level of growth, almost a renewal. Turning over the soil (in your garden, a field, etc.): a reward for your hard work and a steady income. Sitting on the cold ground: pay more attention to your health.
Depth Psychology: The earth is a symbol for becoming and passing; it shows your past and your future.
The earth stands for continuity, modesty, and being grounded, but also for inertia. Which of these applies to you?
(Element of earth; Dirt) In a dream, earth represents people, for they are created from the same element. Earth in a dream also means cattle, animals or the world. Dirt in a dream represents money, but it could also mean poverty. Digging the earth in a dream means digging a grave for a sick person. Digging the earth in a dream also means a journey, and its collected dirt means profits from one’sjourney. Ifdigging the earth is interpreted as seeking marriage, then the earth itself represents one’s future wife. Generally speaking, digging the earth in a dream is bad, because it unveils what is hidden.
The dirt itself represents woman’s property.
To shake the dust off one’s hands in a dream means business losses, poverty and humiliation. It also means remitting savings to their rightful owners. Walking on dirt means soliciting money. Collecting dirt means saving money. Sweeping dirt in one’s house means to swindle money from one’s wife. Earth also represents mans longevity. Ifone sees his wife carrying a bagof dirt in a dream, it means a suspicious pregnancy. Earth in a dream also represents the four elements fire, water, air and either, for it is one of the main elements in nature. Wiping one’s face with dirt in a dream means praising others or disappointing oneself. Earth in a dream also means satisfaction of one’s needs or fulfillment of a promise, because ink is extracted from its elements.
If a merchant sees his merchandise covered with dirt in a dream, it means depression and unsalability of his merchandise.
(Country; Farm; Floor; Glob; Land; Locality; Place; Property) In a dream, each locality has a particular meaning that relates to its substance and conditions.
To see the land of the great gathering on the Day of Resurrection in a dream means the fulfillment of a promise, or that the person seeing the dream is worthy of keeping secrets. Earth in a dream also means becoming rich after poverty, or having peace after experiencing extreme difficulties. It also means a marriage to a beautiful young virgin, or it could mean receiving guidance and attaining a high ranking and an honorable position in the world.
To see the glob being carried on the back of a whale or a steer without changing its conditions in a dream means that the king of the country will be dethroned. He will either step down or be replaced by his minister. Sweeping the floor and caring for the floor mat or carpet in a dream means to care for one’s community or family. Earth in a dream also represents one’s mother, or the governor of the land. Working in a farmland in a dream, seeing its tools, elements, seeds, water, plowing, harvesting, landscaping, blossoming of its flowers, their fragrance, light, whatever positive or negative results one sees therein in a dream represent such success or failure. Seeing an unknown land could denote one’s mother, child, husband, wife, partner, guardian, a servant, or it could mean one’s heirs. Earth in a dream also may mean arguments, knowledge or clarity of speech. Earth in a dream also represents the element of the world, as the skies represent the element of the hereafter. Ifboth the earth and the skies are seen simultaneously in a dream, it means that they can never be joined together, as the world and the hereafter do not exist in one place.
If the top soil of the land is cracked in a dream, it means that the land is rich and arable. Such cracks in a dream also signify the rise of invented religious dogmas and the spread of evil and innovation. Seeing the stretch of the land in a dream means the release of prisoners, or in the case of a pregnant woman, it means the nearing of her delivery.
If one sees an earthquake and the destruction of life and property in a dream, this element represents straying from the path, pride and heedlessness. Ifthe earth appears to fold over him in a dream, it means losingone stature in the world, divorce orlosing in business.
If the earth changes into iron or rocks in one’s dream, it means that one’s wife will not bear children, or it could mean changing one’s trade or profession.
If the earth opens and swallows him in a dream, it means that he is ashamed of somethinghe did, or it could mean hurdles in one’s business, a journey, or imprisonment.
If the earth looks like a desert land in the dream, it may mean that such a person may undertake an urgent trip. Beating the ground with a stick in a dream means taking a business trip. Eating dirt in a dream means earnings an equal amount of money to what one eats in his dream. Ifthe earth cracks and opens, and if a beast comes and speaks to the people in their own tongue in a dream, it means that people will witness a miracle or a happening that will bewilder everyone. This may also mean nearing the end of one’s life. Digging the earth in a dream also means plotting and deceiving others.
If the earth speaks good words to someone in the dream, it means that he or she will attain whatever they are told. On the other hand, if the earth reprimands someone in the dream, it means that he must amend his actions for the better and ask for God’s forgiveness and guidance.
Being rooted, grounded, protected. Everything grows from the womb of the earth, symbol of motherli- ness and fertility.
The type of earth may also point to the dreamer (for instance, clay, sand, humus, etc.) Memories and ancestors are residing deep within the earth. Also a symbol of a difficulty in digesting reality.
In the I Ching, earth represents the dedication to conception, the mother.
The food for the people of the Babylonian underworld was earth.
According to Jung, earth and clay are the food of the underworld, because as the earth accepts the dead, the dead eat the earth.
Basis and foundation of a subject.
Dreaming of the whole earth (seeing it like a globe) means you are a loyal friend. See also “digging.”
2. If fertile, bodes well for a project.
3. If arid or barren, bodes ill for a project.
4. It’s time to get back to basics.
Dreams of the earth represent your foundation, and the belief systems that uphold your life. Your subconscious mind is reminding you to keep your feet on the ground.
The earth is also symbolic of your mother or the maternal, nurturing energy you have received in life. Sometimes the things that are the most important for our survival are the things we most taken for granted. Your subconscious mind may be giving you the message to be grateful for the people in your life that are there for you unconditionally and to treat them with the respect they deserve. See Dirt.
1- To dream of the planet Earth is to take account of the supportive network we have in place in our lives and the attitudes and relationships we take for granted. We are searching for some kind of parental love or social order. Soft earth particularly links with the need for mothering or tactile contact.
2- We have the need to be grounded and practical but need support to be so.
If we find ourselves under or trapped by earth, it shows we need to be more aware of, and understand. our unconscious drives and habits.
3- Earth is the Great Mother and is synonymous with fertility.
(see Clay, Globe)
Being grounded or having solid foundations (e.g., being “down to earth”). Earthly or mundane matters.
The physical plane.
Plowing and planting: Efforts toward acquiring or accentuating positive attributes (see Garden, Farm).
A place of emergence, especially for magical power. In the Middle Ages, it was widely believed that witches gained energy from the earth, and could disappear if they touched soil. Alternatively, this can imply positive energy directed toward developing personal traits and characteristics.
A period of peacefulness. Teutonic tribes would often put down their weapons of war during the season of the Earth Goddess.
Groveling in earth: Debased morals or ideals, or possibly begging for forgiveness.
Mud: Ambiguous circumstances; things getting botched (see Dirt). Alternatively, malicious gossip meant specifically to make a perceived opponent look bad (e.g., “mud slinging).
Among Native Americans, the earth element represents the physical nature, so if the land in your dreams is rich and fruitful, you are likely quite healthy, as is any effort that requires “hands-on” attention.
