Any sense of being outside in dreams – in the open air – will suggest a degree of spiritual freedom. We are free from the restrictions of the mundane world.
Psychological / emotional perspective: Being shut out suggests rejection by others but if we ourselves are shutting something out then we are not prepared to include what is represented in our lives.
Material aspects: In the mundane world a sense of not belonging to a peer group can lead to a feeling of isolation, of being an outcast. In waking life we are aware of restrictions and boundaries that are not necessarily self-imposed. Any sense of being beyond some kind of boundary can mean one of two things: either we have deliberately put ourselves ‘beyond the pale’ or we have inadvertently offended against the rules of the society or group.
